Chobi and Hazareh rugs and carpets are produced in the Peshawar district of west Pakistan by Afghani weavers. The word Chobi means earthy or natural and describes the soft, subtle colours and pure wool and cotton materials used. The designs are reproductions of antique Persian Zieglers and Indian Agras from the 19th C. Chobi carpets and are therefore often described as Afghan Zieglers etc. Of recent manufacture, Chobis started to be produced in the mid to late 1980's to give work to the large amount of Afghan refugees in western Pakistan. The style is perfect for modern interiors being perfect for the natural effect particularly on wooden floors.
